Our Etiquette

New to yoga? Well, unlike fitness studios you may have experienced before, Yoga Roots specifically, and yoga studios in general, provide more than a physical exercise. Our Members will be coming to the Studio bringing with them many expectations. To some, its a place for meditation and mind release. As such, be mindful of the following Etiquette.

Please arrive at least 10 minutes prior to the start of class.

First time students should plan to arrive 15 minutes before class to allow for completing the necessary  New Student Enrollment Form and Waiver. You may complete the PDF and bring it with you to save time.

When entering or leaving the Studio, please be mindful of your talking.

We ask you to be silent as we promote meditation and centering. If running late for class, please know that Yoga Roots believes that “a little bit of yoga is better than no yoga at all”. We simply ask that you prepare yourself mentally for your practice prior to entering the studio and respect your fellow yogis by joining quietly.

Take care of your body- before, during, and after class.

Our classes are definitely physical. In preparation, avoid a full stomach and, where possible, limit your eating 2-3 hours before class.

Hydrate before, during and after class. Drink plenty of water. We provide water at the Studio.

Practice good hygiene and avoid wearing scents such as perfume, cologne or heavily scented lotions. Be sure to bring clean gear for your practice.

To bring and not to bring:

Please bring a mat for yoga classes, but if you forget one, we have mats to borrow and for sale in the lobby. We ask that you please wipe down, and return all mats to the front desk after class.

Wear light, non-restrictive, and comfortable clothing for movement.

Please leave cell phones, shoes and socks, purses or excess clothing outside in the lockers or cubbies provided.  Shoes should remain by the front door entrance so that only bare feet proceed past the desk.  Cell phones should be turned off or muted.  Please note that Yoga Roots will not be responsible for lost or stolen items.

We do have a Lost and Found, but items that remain at Yoga Roots for seven (7) days will be donated or otherwise disposed of.

We expect you will sweat from class. Please clean your space afterwards. Cleaner will be provided for your mat.

Filtered water, fresh tea, clean towels and a hot shower.

Freshly washed complimentary towels are provided for your convenience, but we would like them back for future use by other students. A hamper will be located in the studio for used towels.  Yoga Roots has a filtered water fountain available for filling your water bottles.  We do not offer water for sale in our efforts towards a greener operation.

Bathroom facilities as well as lockers are available at the studio.  We kindly ask you wait to take your shower until the next class starts.

Start class from where you are.

We all start our class from where we are on that particular day, whether you are tight, super flexible, or recovering from injury. It’s your practice. Read our class descriptions and attend a class that you believe is appropriate for your experience and physical condition. And know that we are here for you and will assist you in finding that deeper practice. If you are uncomfortable with assists, please inform your teacher.

Share with your teacher any concerns or questions you may have. Feel free and comfortable to modify your practice at any time to address your personal situation.

Begin your practice here.

If you are new to Yoga Roots, you will be required to complete our New Student Enrollment Form and Waiver. Injuries, medical conditions and/or pregnancy must be disclosed. Please fill out this form at the studio during your first check-in. We are excited by having you as part of our community.

If you are under the age of 16, you must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Bottom line is: we are here for you.

Ask questions, stay connected and enjoy yourself.
